Implementasi Kebun Vertikal sebagai Upaya Penghijauan Berkelanjutan di Masjid Hidayatullah Dusun Sumbul

Abstract

The issue of environmental degradation due to a lack of green space has prompted the implementation of a community service program in the form of a vertical garden at the Hidayatullah Mosque in Sumbul Hamlet. This program aims to create a sustainable greening system in the limited area of the mosque while raising ecological awareness among the community. Using the Community-Based Research (CBR) method, the community is actively involved in problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation was carried out by utilizing used plastic bottles as planting media and installing vertical structures on the mosque walls. The results showed an improvement in environmental aesthetics, micro-coolness, and community awareness of the importance of environmental preservation. Participatory discussions strengthened collaboration between students, mosque administrators, and the community in realizing the mosque as a center for ecology-based empowerment. Despite maintenance challenges, this program serves as a simple yet effective greening model that supports sustainable development and the “Green Mosque” movement.
