Abstract

This community service initiative was implemented through a creative dance class designed to support character building among children in Sengkuang Village. The project was motivated by the children's interest in the arts and the absence of a structured, sustainable training platform. The initiative aimed to introduce basic dance movements while instilling character values such as discipline, teamwork, courage, and self-confidence. The program ran from July 8 to July 28, 2026, with training sessions held two to three times a week, aligned with the schedule of the Student Community Service (KKN) program. The methodology employed included identifying the children's interests, creating simple choreography, securing alternative practice spaces, conducting progressive movement training, providing guidance, and carrying out evaluations. The results demonstrated that the creative dance class served as an enjoyable non-formal learning medium that fostered active participation. Participants gained experience in learning basic dance steps, following instructions, collaborating in groups, and building the confidence to perform in front of others. The primary challenge limited practice space was successfully overcome by utilizing the KKN command post courtyard or residents' homes. This initiative holds the potential to evolve into a sustainable arts program through the active involvement of the local community and village government
